The exhibition at Arti et Amicitae ran from May 17 to June 29, 2024. This exhibition was made possible thanks to the project 1en1is1, where I was paired with artist Ineke Bakker to create a collaborative work.

Collaborating, co-creating. Combining the best you have with the best of another.

In 1en1is1, two artists from different backgrounds create a new work together. The piece can be anything, from an abstract painting to writing and singing a song together. 1en1is1 is about encounters, bridging young and old, connecting cultures, letting go of what you did before, gaining new insights, and getting to know each other. It requires an open, fresh attitude from both the artists and the visitors, who are participants from a distance. They must look twice, at the resulting work and at the process. An exhibition for the future.

The selection of participating artists was made by Anne Verhoijsen, Jos Houweling, CBK Zuidoost, and the Sandberg Institute. The participants are paired by lot. Older people are paired with younger ones. Thoughtful and daring, new friends, different paths.

Art as a quest to surpass oneself, and collaboration fits the spirit of the times. We hope that 1en1is1 will continue in more places and countries: 1en1is1.

On June 17, Ineke and I gave a performance at Arti et Amicitae.
