Because I could not find Eva Besnyö’s passport photos, I started searching in a different way. I enlarged the eyes from passport photos on forged identity cards. Sometimes the eye of the person portrayed shows what was in front of them. Could the photographer be visible in one of those eyes?
I was inspired by the paper The World in an Eye by Ko Nishino and Shree K. Nayar (2004), in which the surroundings are reconstructed from the reflection in an eye. The enlarged eyes hung as translucent sheets in the space.
